Some of the Blogger templates distributed for free comes with pre-configured links in the templates and most of these links are pointing to their sites and are irrelevant to your blog.

2 disastrous things can happen:

1)  You could lose visitors when they click on the links and bring your visitors to the website of the owner who created the template.

2) Google ranks you on the search engine based on several factors but one of the important factors is the number of links that are linking out of your blog. This is commonly known as “Outbound links

The more links you have out of your blog, the less credible your blog appears to Google. To make matters worse, if the links that are linking out of your blog are not related to your blog topic, you can potentially get penalized even more by Google and your ranking on Google search engine could drop, thus potentially losing lots of visitors.
